VeganMoFo IV: Never Trust a Pig Farm and a Smile

Happy World Vegan Day!!!!  Another VeganMoFo has begun!  I am super duper excited this time around because I will finally be doing video!  Now, everybody can see my stupid face and hear my voice.  Awesome!

As the season of vegan blogging begins, I'm already feeling frazzled.  I'm currently typing on three hours of sleep.  Anybody who tells you that building a gingerbread house is fun...they're lying.  Or maybe they just employed child labor.  Seeing as how my dogs don't have opposable thumbs, I spent way too many hours building a gingerbread barn by myself.  The fun part is definitely decorating.  The not-so-fun part is all the royal icing and waiting for things to dry.

This, my friends, is my last year doing gingerbread of any kind.  It's just too much work.  But this is definitely my favorite one yet.  Why?  Molding marzipan detached limbs is just as fun as it sounds.  So I present to you...Haunted Gingerbread 2010: Serial Killer Pig Farm.
front of barn, back of barn
side of house, marzipan pig, jack-o-lantern dots, front door
To make the house,  I used the PPK gingerbread recipe.  I got the template from Ultimate Gingerbread.  The house is sitting on a chocolate cake (from Papa Tofu) and I used the same frosting as last year.  For decoration I used black Twizzlers, Dots, Sweet Tarts, pretzels, colored coconut, and marzipan.  I think my favorite part was shaping the little piggies of death!  I have never worked with marzipan before but it's really so much fun.  Now, for close ups of the carnage.  I even carved little fingers and toes into the dismembered body parts.  Isn't it fun to take a cute concept and make it completely morbid?!  Haha.

tons of gore
don't trust these pigs at all
I can has HANDburger?
In my best Cryptkeeper voice: Well, that's all for now, kiddies!  See you tomorrow, boys and ghouls.  Bahahahahahahahaha.

  1. THAT IS AWESOME! I love the little piggies--the first one, the one who isn't even eating body parts, looks so evil!

  2. Holy crap! I'm so impressed! My mom and I used to make gingerbread houses, but I've been way too intimidated to do it since going vegan 1,000 years ago. (So dumb, I know. I don't know why I'm so scared of vegan royal icing)

This looks amazing! I feel like it's totally doable now. Good work, and happy World Vegan Day!

  3. That is beyond awesome, Mo! It's so creepy! Heehee! I can has handburger? :D

I love those cute little piggies! I won't trust them though! Evil little things!

Gingerbread houses are so much work! Whenever I tell Mr. Wing-It that dinner should be something quick and easy because I don't feel like cooking, he'll say: a gingerbread house! That loon!

Happy MoFo! Happy World Vegan Day!

  5. Wow — impressively creepy and gross! I've only made one gingerbread house that was super simple, but it convinced me not to make any more. You are a master gingerbread-carpenter for sure.

  10. Lacey-Definitely don't make this unless there are kids around. It's so frickin' labor intensive. Last year one of my walls shattered and I almost cried. Haha.

  11. I love your gingerbread house! I admire your attention to detail also. The few times I made a gingerbread house I just ended up getting frustrated. Can't wait to see what else you make for MoFo this year!

  28. This is awesome! Marzipan + gingerbread + cake + untrustworthy little piggies? Yes, please. Way to stick with it and see your gingerbread vision to fruition.

  29. Amazing. And funny :-) Must have been a lot of work.

  30. Oh I love gingerbread houses! It reminds me of my childhood so much. My mother always made quite an ambitious one each year which involved a lot of planning and I always loved to see her put it together. Maybe I'll make one myself this year! Your's is pretty amazing by the way :)

  31. What an impressive (and scary) gingerbread house! You must have put so much work into it. Oh and isn't forming marzipan figures so relaxing? I loved every second of forming pumpkins (less imagination = less fun) and mean worms and witches (more fun) this weekend. :)

You also made me crave my very favorite holiday treat, gingerbread dough. I have been trying to resist making it until closer to Christmas - but November is close enough, right..? ;)

  32. This is officially my favorite gingerbread house ever! I've been thinking about making for the first time this year. I wonder if the neighbors will donate their kids for some manual labor.
